The Parish Council are pleased to report that a new foot bridge has been installed on footpath Acton Bridge FP19, which runs from the River Weaver at Acton Swing Bridge up to Cliff Road, at the point where it crosses with FP20, which runs from the bottom of Acton Lane. The foot bridge is located just off Warrington Road by Acton Swing Bridge; the previous bridge was destroyed in the devastating floods of January 2021. With grateful thanks to Borough Councillor Paul Williams for his invaluable support in helping the Parish Council get it replaced by CWAC, we are glad perseverance has paid off and this popular footpath is now fully passable once again.

Potential Upgrade to Acton Bridge’s Broadband
On Wednesday 10th November an information evening was held in the Parish Rooms about a plan that could give Acton Bridge ultra-fast, 500Mbps broadband. You can find more information on this here.
Rededication of memorial plaques to the “Fallen Men” of Acton Bridge
Originally sited in the former Methodist Chapel in Chapel Lane, two plaques to the fallen men of World War I and World War II were relocated to the Parish Rooms in September 2020. The Parish Council also purchased a new plaque detailing the origin of the Chapel plaques and all the names of those from the Village who fell in both World Wars. Thanks go to the Rev T Simms, formerly of the Methodist Chapel who performed a rededication service on 13th July 2021 and to local businesses Edmund Nagle, Yoxall Ltd and Whitby’s who removed, restored and mounted the plaques free of charge, and also to Bob Heaton who co-ordinated the whole project.
Fourth Interactive Speed Sign installed in Acton Bridge
With the support of grants from both the Police and Crime Commissioner and our CWAC Councillors, the Parish Council used funds from the Precept to purchase four interactive speed signs for the village. Data is stored 24 hours a day which records vehicle speeds both on their approach to the signs and at the point of passing the signs. This data is sent, on a monthly basis, to the Police and also to Cheshire West Highways department. It shows roughly a third of all traffic travels over 40 mph in our 30 mph zones.
The first two signs were purchased and positioned at Station Road and the Parish Rooms in August 2018. In November 2018 they were moved to Milton Rough and Acton Lane. Once we had a comparison of speed data at all four of sites, the Parish Council decided to move them permanently to Station Road and Milton Rough in February 2019, and to purchase a third sign for the Parish Rooms (March 2019). A fourth sign for Acton Lane was installed in December 2020.
Replacement Seat at Hill Top Road / Cliff Road junction
The seating area at the junction of Cliff Road and Hill Top Road was replaced in September 2018 through a joint project between Acton Bridge Community Association, Acton Bridge Women’s Institute, and the Parish Council.
Bench on Acton Lane
Weaver Vale Cycling Club arranged a replacement for the bench which commemorates one of their members and a former resident of Acton Bridge, Alan Littlemore. The Parish Council made a donation of £100 towards the costs, and it put in place in Summer 2017.
The seat provides a welcome rest stop for walkers and cyclists as the climb Acton Lane.
