Please find attached link to a temporary road closure notice for A49 Warrington Road, Acton Bridge which commences on 20th February 2021.  This is necessary for safety reasons to enable a bridge inspection and will be carried out by Canal and River Trust. Background

During the Christmas period, the garden waste service is suspended for a further three weeks until Monday 1 March 2021.

The resources for the garden waste collections will be utilised to assist both recycling and domestic collections during this time.

The extended suspension provides Cheshire West Recycling with greater flexibility, to make sure that core waste and recycling collections can be maintained for our residents whilst mitigating the impact of   increased sickness levels in these unprecedented times.

Councils offers opportunity to pay tribute as country records over 100, 000 Covid-related deaths.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has re-launched an online book as a place for residents of west Cheshire to pay tribute to those who have lost their lives to coronavirus.

The move comes as the country passes the grim milestone of 100,000 coronavirus deaths, nearly a year to the day since the first recorded death. 

The book is a place for people to reflect on the events of the pandemic and to thank everyone who has gone above and beyond in the response. Residents are also invited to record messages of condolence, reflections and hopes for the future.

Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Councillor Louise Gittins said, “This devastating disease has claimed hundreds of lives in our borough, leaving families and friends mourning their personal loss, while the wider community mourns our loss as a society. Many have also lost their jobs, businesses and livelihoods and we wish them well for a brighter future. My thoughts are with each and every person who has suffered any loss since the start of this pandemic.

“The nature of Covid-19 means that, as a borough, we have been unable to come together in our reflections and grief as we would usually wish to when faced with such loss and sadness.

“During this pandemic, we have seen and experienced the power of communities coming together to help and support residents in need. We’ve also seen the inspirational support and commitment shown by the nation’s tireless NHS staff, care workers, emergency and first responders, teachers and all our essential and key workers. This year has demonstrated how everything and everyone can truly be connected.”

Sunday 31 January 2021, will see the first anniversary of the first notified case of Covid-19 in Britain. The Council will be lowering its Council flag as a sign of respect on this sad anniversary. Chester Cathedral will also be lighting candles on Sunday during morning prayers.

The Very Revd Dr Tim Stratford – Dean of Chester said,“It is important to light a candle in the shadow of this pandemic, especially as the country has marked the milestone of 100,000 deaths in this last year and on the anniversary of the first notified case of the coronavirus in Britain. Light gives us hope, especially for those who are suffering, and it leads us towards the end of this pandemic, which will come at some point.”

The Council is working with local stakeholders and communities on how the borough could collectively commemorate the impact and the losses the coronavirus has had on the borough.

This is an update from the Environment Agency.

Flood Warning in force: River Weaver at Acton Bridge and Weaverham.

Flooding is expected for: Areas at risk include Properties along Warrington Road at Acton Bridge and Sandy Lane in Weaverham.

Immediate action required.

River levels are continuing to rise at the Pickerings Cut river gauge as a result of persistent heavy rainfall associated with Storm Christoph. Consequently, flooding to properties is expected. We believe there is a possibility of flooding for some properties close to the River Weaver along Warrington Road and Sandy Lane. Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours and we expect river levels to remain high until Friday. Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue further flood warnings if necessary. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses, be aware of your surroundings and keep up to date with the current situation.

Storm Christoph set to bring heavy rain to Cheshire

Residents across Cheshire are being urged to be prepared following the arrival of Storm Christoph, which is set to bring heavy rain across the county this week.

A number of weather warnings are now active and Cheshire Constabulary is working closely with a number of other agencies to deal with any incidents and to reduce any disruption for the local community.

Due to significant heavy rain forecast over the next few days there is the potential for flooding across the county.

There are also a number of flood warnings in place, including the river Weaver in Northwich and Winsford.

At this stage there is no requirement to evacuate any residents. However, plans are in place should this change and anyone affected by the flood warnings are urged to keep up-to-date with the latest news on the Environment Agency website.

Superintendent Simon Parsonage from Cheshire Constabulary said: “We are working closely with other agencies in the community to monitor the situation and collectively we will do all we can to minimise any disruption across the county and keep people safety.

“All agencies continue to monitor the situation for potential for any flooding and I would encourage residents in the affected areas to monitor the alerts from the Environment Agency and take action if flooding has been forecast in your area.

“With heavy rain forecast, road closures are a possibility and anyone making an essential journey should allow extra time in case of any issues.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely over the next 48 hours and issue regular updates through our social media accounts.”

Residents are reminded not to walk or drive through any flood water – this is often deeper than it looks, it may be moving fast and there could be hidden hazards underneath such as raised manhole covers, which can pose a danger.

The decennial census is almost upon us.

Households across Cheshire West and Chester will soon be asked to take part in the nationwide survey of housing and the population. It has been carried out every decade since 1801, with the exception of 1941.

Information from the digital-first census will help decide how services are planned and funded in your local area. This could mean things like doctors’ surgeries, housing or new bus routes.

Households will receive a letter with a unique access code in the post, allowing them to complete their questionnaire online. Paper questionnaires will be available on request. Census day is March 21.
